A new program has been launched to ensure that the foreign skilled people enter the country at a faster rate than they ever did.
The New Program
Immigration Minister, Jason Kenney, informed that the new program would meet the crisis of labor shortage so that employers do not have to remain without their work being completed.
The labor shortage is prominent in most of the provinces of the country including the interiors of Ontario.
Kenney says, “This is about having an immigration system that works for our economy and fuels our long term growth and prosperity.”
The need of an improved Immigration System
The existing Immigration system in the country has rarely met the labor needs of the economy, thereby making no major contributions to the economic growth.
Hence, a new system which can facilitate the processing of applications and make things easier not only for the immigrant applicants but also the employers in the country is the need of the hour.
Acceptance of Applications
The applications will be invited and accepted from January 2, 2013 and the process of accepting the same will continue till the target of 3,000 applications is met.
Criteria for the applicants
The applicants should meet the following criteria:
• They must hold a job offer in the country
• Should hold basic proficiency in the one of the two official languages of the country that is either English or French.
• Should hold a minimum of two years of experience in the industry they are making their application into.
• The occupation they apply for should fall under the “federal Trade classification System”.
The list of occupation which is quite in demand for labors would include pipe-fitters, mechanics, and electricians. There would be quite a considerable number of jobs in the transportation industry as well.
Advantage of the new system over the old one
Things were though easier under point system for those who were holding a higher degree and less of work experience. Now, the new system will give preference to the work experience in the relevant field.
Yet, there are many who believe that the proficiency requirement in the language could still be barrier for many skilled people who are good with their job but do not meet the language requirement.
With the changes in the immigration system, the employers can be assured of meeting their labor demands in shorter span of time.
