Six Reasons why Immigrants are considered a threat by citizens

United States, 29th July: Allowing immigrants is good the development of any nation, especially with declining rate of growth. However, its inhabitants consider them as threat. Why?

There are numerous reasons why immigrants are considered disadvantageous for nations. These reasons are stated below—

1. Jobs--The first threat that immigrants pose to the legal citizens of a nation is that they take their jobs. Immigration affects population growth of the US. A general argument against increased number of immigrants coming in the US is that they might make the job market of the country worse since a large number of legal citizens of the US do not have jobs.

2. Over-crowding—Another major disadvantage of allowing immigrants into the US is that they result in over-crowding of the nation. This also results in creating imbalance in the existing resources of the nation.
3.  Burden on public services—Immigrants put a burden on the public and social services of the US including healthcare services, infrastructure, education etc. Hence, the nation which allows immigrants has to bear the strain of increased costs in providing resources to the immigrants.

4. Legal aspects—Immigrants, especially those who are less educated can create law and order problems in the nation by indulging in violence, arson, theft and so on. This, in turn, can put the security of the nation at stake. Growing incidence of terrorism is, inadvertently, the result allowing illegal immigrants into nations.

5. Diseases- Immigrants hailing from poor or under-developed nations live in deplorable conditions in their native countries. Hence, it is quite obvious that they might bring with them several diseases and infections which might spread to the immigrating countries. Serious disease like AIDS was brought to the US in 1969 from an immigrant hailing from Haiti suffering from similar infection.

6. Low wage levels—Several studies have indicated that immigrants, especially unskilled immigrants, help in lowing the wage levels thus forcing native citizens to work on lower wages.

Hence, it is due to the above stated factors that legal citizens of several developed nations consider immigrants a potential threat to the economy of the nation.
