Scotland student visa rules questioned

As per the details, a couple of immigration norms for foreign students coming to study in Scotland are proving to be a big obstacle.

Questions over Scotland student visa norms—Liam McArthur, official spokesperson for Liberal Democrat education and Liz Smith, Conservative spokesperson for young people have come out against foreign student rules for Scotland.

The issue was brought to the notice of David Willetts, Universities Minister and UK Home Secretary Theresa May. And its high time to take some action to the issue since its affecting universities.

Scotland student visa rules are proving to be an obstacle for several universities and the issue is being discussed with the UK Home Secretary among others.

As per McArthur, the UK government must not include students in the net UK immigration target. And this fact has been accepted even by UK Business Secretary Vince Cable, he added.

Moreover, there is no truth in the saying that everything related to immigration policy is not good for the universities.

UK visa process not flexible—However, there is no denying the fact that the UK visa process is not flexible enough as far as grant of UK visas is concerned. And the system is not transparent when we speak of refusal of UK visas, stated Ms. Smith.

So, the two major concerns for the Scotland universities are lacking flexibility for UK visas and the non-transparency concerning UK visa refusals.

No wonder, such issues are proving to be a major obstacle in the way of foreign students’ future and their plans for studying in Scotland. Its high time the UK government pays due attention to the matter by not including the foreign students in the annual net UK immigration target, she clarified.

More flexible post-study work visa rules needed--UK needs to accept the fact that its post-study work visa arrangements are far behind other nations like New Zealand, Canada and Australia, she further quipped.

So, the Scotland universities require the duration of time allowed to foreign graduates in the nation for searching job there.

McArthur maintained that the foreign students must be taken out of the figures of net migration while introducing required improvisations to the opportunities in post-study work visa program. Only then can Scotland look forward to attracting more and more foreign students to come, study and work under the post-study work visa program.
