Is there any such thing as a bridge visa? Awaiting PR in Canada- Work Visa ending soon.

Question in Detail:
I am from the UK and currently awaiting my PR status (it shouldn't be much longer than 3-5 months now from what I've heard, my spouse has been approved as my sponsor and our application is in London right now). I applied from outside the UK as that is where my permanent address is but am currently living in Canada on a 12 month IEC Visa and have a job and pay rent here. I was wondering if anyone might know if it is possible to get a short extension to bridge the gap between my 12 moth working Visa ending and my Permanent Residency being approved? A few other British people have mentioned this to me but I can't seem to find any evidence of it on the CIC website. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
