Proposal of UK immigration cap by Conservatives suffocating- Council

United Kingdom, January 15: The annual UK immigration limit proposed by the Conservatives will threaten jobs on a big scale and will result in suffocating the industry, the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants (JCWI) has argued.

Mr. Habib Rahman, chief executive of the council, stated that the points-based system is the right answer for the economy of UK as it enables only highly skilled workers for gaining UK visa. The annual limit on UK immigration proposed by David Cameron, the Conservative leader, is receiving severe criticism.

The claims by Conservative leader David Cameron, that increasing UK immigration was proving to be a big burden on the essential public services in UK, were refuted by Habib Rehman. Mr. Rehman said that a large number of care workers, working doctors, teachers, and several others involved in the public services were actually born and received their training abroad.

Rehman reiterated the fact that immigration was not only vital to the economy of UK but was a crucial lifeline to specialized industry and even the NHS.
And placing such arbitrary limits or constraints on the number of people immigrating to the UK will prove to be suffocating for the business and the industry as well.

This, he argued, would result in serious complications as several patients needing urgent medical aid will remain untreated and unattended in the hospitals of the UK and the elderly will be deprived of the care they need in the absence of required number of care workers and doctors due to an arbitrary cap on immigrants.

These assessments by Mr. Rahman were based on a study by National Institute of Economic and Social research. The research stated that between the year 2004 and 2005, immigration had contributed to nearly 17 percent towards the economic development in the country. And the public sector of the UK had received maximum benefit from the current immigration system.

It was further found that the total revenue received by UK universities from foreign students amounts to nearly £3.74 billion annually.
