The investigation was launched after seeing an advertisement on a website providing sex with Asian women for money. The investigation, a joint operation of Canada Border Services Agency and Calgary police, was started in the month of September this year.

The investigations reveal that the online advertisement uncovered a human trafficking ring operating from three homes in Calgary. The place where transactions were arranged and calls from customers were received was a hair salon operated by a 52-year-old woman in the northwest Calgary.

The venue for the prostitution was said to be three houses I the 0-100 block of Holmwood Avenue North West, the 200 block of Hendon Drive North West and the 4900 block of 17th Avenue South West.

Police officials stated during the investigations that the suspected woman offered sexual services to the undercover officers and came with another offer of selling two teenage women (who were actually aged 25 and 41) from China for nearly $5,000 each. Moreover, the suspect subsequently brought down the price of both women to $8,000 in total.

The suspect woman from Calgary, Linh Quy, was arrested by the police and charged with human trafficking and several other charges. Apart from Quy, two men and two women were also taken into custody. However, it is yet to be revealed whether the two men and the two women are victims or suspects.

In another case, social networking websites were reportedly being used to lure aspiring models to Calgary and were pushed into the sex-trade.

The police took into custody four girls including three teenagers under the Protection of Sexually Exploited Children act. These girls were forced to work as prostitutes by a 38-year-old man of Edmonton, Calgary.

The suspect, Codie Toby Cardinal a.k.a. Brooklyn Cardinal has been charged with human trafficking and also under the Protection of Sexually Exploited Children Act.
