Australia, 15th April: For developing Western Australia skilled migration program, the Western Australian government has announced of joining hands with the Chamber of Mineral and Energy (CME) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA (CCIWA).

Peter Collier, Training and Workforce Development Minister made the announcement regarding the partnership aimed to address skills shortage in the state of Western Australia (WA).
Western Australia needs additional labor for various jobs in Western Australia and the WA Skilled Migration Strategy is a vital component of joint Workforce Development Plan.
The focus of this plan, no doubt, will be on increasing job opportunities for West Australians; however, to address imminent skill and labor shortage, the plan will also focus on overseas as well as interstate migration, stated Collier.
The government needs to address the core components of skilled migration since there is a shortage of sufficient skilled workers from within the country. Hence, a skilled migration strategy is the need of the hour, asserted Collier.
The Skilled Migration Strategy will help in initiating a highly efficient and a thoroughly consistent approach for catering to WA’s skilled migration requirements in the near future.
The partnership alliance between the state and the national agencies for migration policy is being seen to work best for the interests of the WA.
The CME has forecast a requirement of nearly 26,000 workers in the resources sector by the year 2013. CCIWA has predicted an additional 400,000 workforce in the state of WA over the next decade.
Following key issues will be addressed in the Western Australian Skilled Migration Strategy-----------
• Analyzing the role of the current migration policies and practices in meeting requirement of workers for WA;
• Clarifying the role of temporary skilled migration and permanent skilled migration in meeting skilled shortages;
• Finding various barriers to WA that prove obstacle in making it a favorite destination of skilled and business migrants;
• Formulating a policy that outlines the role played by migration in meeting future needs of required workforce.
The plan will be released by the government in June, 2010.
