New Zealand launches VisaView system to facilitate employers

New Zealand, 4th August: New Zealand’s Department of Labor has launched VisaView system to help employers check whether a person, not having New Zealand citizenship, can work in New Zealand or not.

The VisaView system is an online system through which employers can see the legal status and related records of the job applicants maintained by Immigration New Zealand. The online system was launched by Department of Labour, New Zealand, on August 2, 2010.

In order to know about the entitlement of the employee to work in the country, employers in New Zealand need to provide last name of the person along with his passport number.

And to gain access to New Zealand VisaView system, employers in New Zealand need to get themselves registered for the same. It is only after registration that the employers can confirm whether any potential employee can work in New Zealand as per the rules of New Zealand.

The main aim of this act is to ensure that employers do not employ any non-New Zealand citizen for work in New Zealand.

Registration process for employers in New Zealand is quite simple. If you are an employer in New Zealand, you need to provide your ACC number (as mentioned on your ACC invoice) along with your business name.

To get access to New Zealand VisaView system, an employer needs to log in using the igovt logon service. Igovt logon service will enable you get access to various government online services.

New Zealand VisaView system checks the database of Department of Labour and provides the employers with an answer usually in the form of a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ along with other peculiar conditions to work in New Zealand as applicable to the concerned non-New Zealand citizen who is a New Zealand visa holder.

The VisaView system is absolutely free to access and in majority of cases, it provides real-time replies to the queries by employers in New Zealand.

A detailed history of all your enquiries is duly maintained by New Zealand VisaView system so that employers in New Zealand can exercise due care regarding various requirements of New Zealand Immigration Act 2009 that will come into effect from 29th November 2010 onwards.
