New US immigration reform deal unveiled

United States, 29th January: A new US immigration reform was released by eight US Senators.

As per the information, the new immigration reform will through open the route to US citizenship for nearly 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the US.

New US citizenship pathway for undocumented immigrants—The new US immigration reform aims to offer a tough but, nonetheless, a fair route for undocumented immigrants to become US citizens.

The US Senators stated that it has been widely acknowledged that the immigration process of the US is broken and needs an immediate reform.

What’s the new US immigration legislation—The proposal by US Senators is to increase the agents at various ports for ensuring better security at the US-Canada borders. And the immigration deal also aims to make prohibitions against racial discrimination and racial profiling more strengthened along with minimizing inappropriate use of force.

Border patrol agents will be offered more training to ensure better US border security. Among other requirements of the immigration deal include registration with the US government for all those living in the US unlawfully.

Other proposals in the reformed immigration deal—Among other proposals made in the US immigration deal are ways to attract and retain immigrants having STEM(science, technology, engineering and mathematics) degrees.

Apart from STEM graduates, foreign or international students enrolled in US universities for getting higher degrees and high-tech foreign workers will be targeted to help them stay in the US.

This is in keeping with the view that nearly 40 percent of scientists happen to be immigrants.

Moreover, immigrants in the US are twice as likely to start new businesses in the US as compared to native Americans, affirmed an immigration specialist at the libertarian Cato Institute, Alex Nowrasteh.

Immigration beneficial to the US economy--Several US industries are not able to find the required number of workers and demand for such workers is going to increase as the market demands go up, Nowrasteh adds. And the consensus among various US economists is that the nation is going to benefit from the immigration. How?

Immigration increases productivity, demand, brings down the prices and thus has a positive impact n the US economy.
