New immigrant nominee program by Saskatchewan

Canada, 3rd May: Saskatchewan immigration rules are likely to be tightened in the coming times.

This has been revealed by Rob Norris, Saskatchewan immigration minister.

Saskatchewan immigration changes to tackle abuse—Immigration minister Norris says the new tougher Saskatchewan immigration rules going to be introduced shortly are aimed to cut misuse of the immigration process.

There have been several complaints by immigrant workers with regard to the mistreatment meted out to them after coming to Saskatchewan under the immigrant nominee program.

So, taking a cue from such complaints, the government of Saskatchewan decided to formulate a new ruling to offer increased protection to foreign workers coming to work here.

Speaking about the proposed changes to Saskatchewan immigration program, Norris hinted to protect foreign workers coming under provincial nominee program. Apart from stopping any misuse, the new provincial nominee program by Saskatchewan will also ensure longer duration of stay in Saskatchewan for immigrants rather than moving to other places in Canada.

New Saskatchewan immigration rules—beneficial for immigrants and employers--Changes will protect immigrant workers in Saskatchewan during the process of recruitment and their settlement, he further added.

The proposal will not only benefit the foreign workers but also the employers offering them sponsorship for coming to Saskatchewan, informed Norris.

Employers will have access to a registry of all recruiters and consultants approved by Saskatchewan and this registry will be developed by the ministry, said Norris.

Such a ruling will protect workers and employers against any unscrupulous recruiters, Norris clarified.

Limited family members allowed to apply--Speaking before media persons in Regina this Wednesday, Norris said new immigrant nominee program by Saskatchewan will make it difficult for aspiring immigrants to bring along their families.

As per the changed rules, at a time, only one family member will be allowed nomination for citizenship, affirmed Norris. Prior to these announced changes, the Saskatchewan immigrant nominee program enabled immigrants to make applications for unlimited family members to join in Saskatchewan.

Condition of a job offer in Saskatchewan—Another pre-requisite of changed Saskatchewan immigration nominee program is having a prior offer of job in Saskatchewan for a family member to immigrate to the province.

Earlier requirement did not have any such prior requisite of job in Saskatchewan.

The province is also seeking an increase in the annual quota for the number of immigrants to be allowed to Saskatchewan to 6,000 from the current 4,000.
