This study has contracted the earlier estimated data of undocumented immigrants living in the UK. Earlier, studies done by London School of Economics (LSE) and UK Home Office had put the underestimated the figures of undocumented immigrants in the UK.
UK Home office had put the total undocumented immigrants living in the UK at 618,000 while the LSE for the mayor of London, Boris Johnson had estimated the number of illegal immigrants in the UK to be 863,000 as per the data relating to 2007.
But Migrationwatch unveiled the truth behind the undocumented immigrant figures saying the total including those who came here through illegal means and those who had overstayed is actually 1.1 million.
The study maintained that presently, total number of undocumented immigrants living in the UK is equal to the present population of Birmingham.
Citing a clear warning to the UK government, the study stated that if the proposed amnesties are approved, the figures are very likely to double after dependents and spouses of undocumented immigrants are allowed entry in the UK.
In such a situation, nearly 2.2 million will be added to UK’s population since every pardoned undocumented immigrant will be allowed to bring one spouse and one family member including child in to the UK.
Also, the UK immigration study has challenged the formula used for arriving at the number of those overstaying their UK visas.
To solve this problem and to bail the country out of such chaotic situation, what is needed at the present moment is a well-thought and a serious attempt control such high numbers of undocumented immigrants staying in the UK said Sir Andrew Green, Chairman of Migrationwatch adding that the whole process could take several years before the things come under control.
