You can renew your permanent Resident card if it nearing expiry or you has lost it or you have got it damaged for some reasons or the other.
Making the application
You can make an online application, if so then you would be receiving an email as a receipt of the same. If you are making an application on hard copy then you need to fill it up carefully, sign and date it so that there is no delay in the processing.
When you choose to apply you will be given an “application package” which will include an “Instruction Guide and a Form”.
Documents to be submitted
You need to submit all the documents asked by the concerned Department along with a specific kind of photo and pay a processing fee of $50. All this needs to be deposited along with the accurately filled in Application form.
Making application after the expiry date or while traveling
The PR Card is valid mostly for five years and the date of expiry is mentioned on the card itself. So it should keep reminding you about the same. If you are 6 months away from expiry date of the card then you are eligible to make an application to get it renewed.
In case you anticipate that you would be leaving the country very shortly then you can apply under “urgent processing”.
While you are traveling outside Canada and have made an application for the same, then you will have to submit travel documents, because the PR card can never be mailed rather a hard copy is sent to the applicant.
Those who are applying for new Permanent Resident Cards should get prepared for a processing time of 61 calendar days.
Those making an application for renewal or replacement should wait for 95 calendar days.
If you down receive the card beyond a period of above mentioned days, then you must call up the required pals or make a personal visit to confirm the status.
Requirements to be met
This document allows you to stay in Canada officially as Permanent resident so it expects you to fulfill a few criteria:
• You should have stayed in Canada for a minimum of 730 days (2 years) within a period of five years.
• You should be present in Canada
• You should not be facing any effective removal order for any undesired act as per the Canadian Laws.
• You should not be convicted for misusing your PR card.
Getting a PR card renewed requires a series of documents and perfection from your end. You can always keep a tab on the date and get it renewed when you have enough time in hand rather than rushing in the last moment. However, someone who is out of Canada can also make an application, but, angina he needs to submit his travel documents as the card is never mailed electronically. Be prepared to receive only a hard copy of the same.
