To make a big achievement on illegal immigration, the authorities would be hunting for about 500,000 immigrants staying illegally in the Malaysia. The operation is meant to weed out the illegal immigrants away from the nation.
The targeted illegal immigrants
The target would be those illegal immigrants registered under Comprehensive Settlement program for Illegal Immigrants. But, these immigrants never turned up for the further processing. According to an estimate there are about 2 million undocumented immigrants, out of this only 1.3 million have been registered under the mentioned program. They were expected to deport on their own, but they failed to do so forcing the officials to take such steps.
The officials involved
An official informs that the undocumented immigrants have been given more than a year’s time to deport or to report to the department but they kept hiding and have been staying illegally in the country. The experts refer the process as “cat and mouse game” but, the officers are confident about their planning and action too.
More than 130,000 officers belonging to various departments like Immigration, Army, Police and Defence will be involved in the process.
There would be officials from National registration Department and local councils too. The entire operation will be led by Immigration Department.
The places to be raided
Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang, Melaka and Johor would be raided. These areas have been identified as dense pockets with illegal immigrants.
The department would get support from police, Army and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and other bodies while raiding in Melaka.
Kamaluddin Ismail, immigration Director in Melaka informs that the gateways like Customs and other mouths have been tightened as a precautive measure.
Officials will be hunting for the illegal immigrants on the island and even on the mainland.
Basri Othman, head of Immigration Department in Penang informs, “The jetties, shopping complexes and many other hideouts would be stormed after getting a feedback from the Intelligence Department.”
Construction sites, Industrial estates and other relevant places would be searched thoroughly in Perak. More than 400 officials belonging to administration and management have been entrusted with the responsibility of catching upon illegal immigrants.
The fate of arrested illegal immigrants
The country has 12 detention centers and each of them have a capacity of 1000. Immigration officials want to ensure that the illegal immigrants are deported out of the country immediately after they are caught upon, otherwise the detention centers may get overcrowded.
Support would be desired from foreign officials and other countries so that the arrested illegal immigrants can be deported sooner than later.
The employers too would be facing charges based on Anti-trafficking for hiring illegal immigrants.
Illegal Immigration has been a matter of concern for most of the countries. And almost all of them have their own measures to combat the issue. After all, no country would like to share its resources with undocumented set of people because it actually curbs the facilities extended to the legally present entities of the country.
