International students attracted to US graduate schools


United States, 7th December: International students are getting attracted to US graduate schools, findings of a recent report state.

An increase of 8 percent was witnessed in the number of foreign student enrollments in US graduate schools this fall, the findings of the report by Council of Graduate Schools show.

And the number of Chinese student enrollments went up by a whopping 21 percent.

China, India largest source of foreign students to US—The number of foreign students hailing from India and China have gone up in 2009 and 2010. As per the figures, China provided nearly 26 percent of international graduate students at the University in the year 2010 making an increase over Chinese student enrollments in the year 2009(stated to be 24 percent).

US University to increase international graduate school enrollment by 2020—The 2020 Strategic Plan of the University targets to increase the number of graduate school enrollments in the University by alluring higher number of foreigners to take admissions here.

This was revealed by dean of the graduate school of the University, Maureen Grasso. And the focus will be to invite international students from underrepresented nations, she asserted.

By studying in the US, foreign students get wide exposure and world-class education. This gives them an edge over others in getting jobs.

Collaborations to highlight different options at the University--To welcome foreign students from various nations of the world, an International Recruitment Committee has been formulated for enrolling students at undergraduate and graduate levels in the University.

And foreign students will be provided information about various opportunities awaiting at the University through collaborations with Education USA( US Department of State’s sponsored advising centers).

US education gives an edge in getting jobs—Studying in the US including the University gives foreign students a winning edge in getting jobs over others just having a bachelor’s degree from their native nations.

Studying overseas equips students not just with a degree but also increases their life experiences and enhances their social abilities, admits a Chinese studying pursuing journalism graduation in the US, Xiakui Huang.

The US is a welcoming nation for foreigners, including international students, states Huang. Students can share their opinions with their teachers in the US.

She is hopeful of finding a good job once she graduates in journalism.
