Indians moving back from Australia
by Harleen Kaur - February 9, 2010
Australia, February 9: Seeing increased risk to their lives in Australia, several Indians are finally taking a decision to move back to their homeland.

No wonder, this means a loss up to Rs. 20 lakhs for every student, but it is not much as compared to their lives and their safety. Moreover, such a decision was made since living in Australia would not have fetched them any jobs even after successful completion of their degrees.
Although, secretary of FISA (Federation of Indian Students), Gautam Gupta, did not reveal the exact number of Indians who have either left or are leaving for India, but he confirmed that the Indians were finding life difficult in Australia and hence were prompted to take such a drastic step.
No jobs even after completion of degree in Australia-
No hope of a job even after getting an Australian degree is what prompted a student of business and finance from La Trobe University in Melbourne to get back to India. This student from Gujarat had gone to Melbourne in 2008 on Australian student visa but finally returned to her native land in November 2009 even though she had only six months to complete her educational degree in Australia.
No Security--
She said that she was unsure of getting employed there since only five out of total 150 students in her batch had got jobs. And, she would have got permanent residency on completion of her degree in Australia, but the increasing sense of insecurity pushed her to get back to India.
And she is not alone in doing so. The fact is that despite a high cost of returning by leaving their dreams and education mid-way in Australia, many Indians are coming to terms with this hard truth. Pursuing skill-based vocations like hair-dressing, cookery etc. costs nearly $10,000 to $20,000 Australian dollars annually; while the fee for undergraduate studies in Australia comes up to anything between $20,000 to $30,000 Australian dollars which in Indian currency comes to Rs. 8-12 lakh.
Apart from the course fee, the students need to shell out funds on living expenses including housing rent bonds, insurance etc. which comes up to nearly $1500 Australian dollars every month(or Rs. 60,000 every month).
But, safety, is above all such things, agree Indians in Australia.
