Increase in Minimum Wage in Alberta makes it still more favorite with Immigrants


The increase in minimum wage rate in Alberta allures more immigrants to the province.

Recently increase in minimum wage has come as good news for the aspiring immigrants to the province as well as those living there.

Rise in minimum wage rate:
Alberta is proposing two groups of increase in minimum wage rate the one who are serving liquor and the others who are not. There is supposed to be an addition of 25 cents for the ones who serve liquor accounting to $ 9.05 per hour from the previous $ 8.80 per hour and addition of 60 cents for the ones who don’t serve liquor from $ 8.80 per hour to now accounting to be $ 9.40 per hour from the 1st September this year. This is the first part of the rise program that formulates to increase minimum wage rate in two parts one this September and the next increase will be coming in another six months and will reach $ 10.05.

Different wage rate:
As according to the government of the province, the introduction of difference in the wage rate for the liquor servers and those who don’t serve is an appropriate step taken. This wage is differential because the ones who serve liquor are able to earn good part through the tips and this wage rate will provide the employers with flexibility to pay their workers.

The Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Associations have supported this step and its spokesman said it is a balancing the growth.

Benefits of this Increase:
This has also has turned up for as refreshing news for the employees who were having same minimum wage rate of $8.40 in the year 2009.

The employment Minister Thomas Lukaszuk commented on the rise and said with such step it would help employers as well as employees to flourish.

The step is also taken to attract more and more immigrants to the province he further adds on that this increase was required to maintain the balance and draw more new people to the entry levels and will also help the employers to maintain competitiveness.
