United States, 26th April: Mayor Michael Bloomberg has asserted the vital contribution of immigrants to the US while stressing on the need for increasing US immigration levels.

Immigrants play significant role in shaping the US economy--Replying to a question about the role of undocumented immigrants for the economy of New York City, Mr. Bloomberg said the city is dependent on the immigrants. The economy of the US would be devastated if the nation removed all the undocumented immigrants, he cautioned. Controlled immigration is vital for the cultural and the economic development of the nation, he quipped.
Immigrants contribute $200 billion contributed annually to New York City economy—Immigrants represent around one-third of the total workforce donning the professional and managerial roles in the NYC (New York City), Bloomberg informed.
Enforce fair US policies-urges Bloomberg-When asked about suggesting a possible solution to the problem of increasing number of undocumented immigration in the US, Bloomberg hinted at the introduction of fair US policies along with use of latest technical know-how for reaching the undocumented immigrants in the US.
Deportation of around 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the US is no solution for the US, he stated.
The solution lies in making them productive since they have already arrived in the US. The nation must focus on stricter border control while relaxing the UK immigration norms for increasing the upper limit of immigrants possessing higher education and skills into the US, stressed Bloomberg, an independent politician and a billionaire.
Amnesty, said Bloomberg, was also a possible solution to the current problem.
Staple US Green Card to US graduate degrees earned by foreigners—He stressed that foreigners earning a US graduate degree must be given a US Green Card to help them get suitable jobs in accordance with their education and skills in the US. This can prevent foreigners with US degrees from returning back to their respective nations and control brain-drain, he maintained.
Bloomberg said that the number of immigrants living in the NYC currently is said to be around 36 percent of the total population of the city.
And these immigrants are nearly 46 percent of the total workforce of the NYC, he stated.
Legal residency for undocumented immigrants in the US- Bloomberg also asserted on providing some route of legal US residency to a large number of undocumented immigrants in the US keeping in mind the valuable contribution made by them to the US economy.
