United States, 22nd July: Immigration is key to the economy of Michigan, states Governor Rick Snyder.

Addressing a conference on immigration at Wayne State University, the governor expressed the likeliness of bringing international students in Michigan closer with businesses and to facilitate easy conversion of US student visas into US work visas.
Immigrants beneficial for Michigan economy—Immigrants coming to Michigan are being seen as a major contributor towards the state’s economy.
Some of the major companies in this US state including Dow Chemical C0., Meijer Inc. and Masco Corp. are the results of the entrepreneurial skills of immigrants. While Meijer was the brain child of a Dutch immigrant, Dow and Masco were founded by a Canadian and an Armenian immigrant respectively.
Hence, efforts should be made in attracting such immigrants who have the potential to produce such brilliant results, Snyder asserted. The fact remains that immigration is key to success of Michigan economy, he confirmed at a huge gathering at the New Michigan Media conference.
Immigrants create new jobs--Snyder also brought forth another positive contribution of immigrants in the news conference on immigration and Michigan economy. He said that several companies are headed by foreigners, thus helping in creation of several jobs in Michigan.
Even Michael Bloomberg, Mayor of New York, admitted during a video conference named ‘Can Immigrants Save Detroit?” that Detroit must welcome immigrants who want to live there for five to ten years since this will help in creation of new businesses in this US state. New American Economy, a national bipartisan coalition comprising business leaders and mayors co-chaired by Bloomberg believer that necessary reforms in the US immigration policy can lead to creation of new jobs in the US and give a big stimulus to the economy.
Unfriendly US immigration rules- a threat to immigrants-- While pointing towards the unfriendly immigration rules of the US, he said that the US needs to learn a lesson or two from Canada.
Canada has accepted that it can allow more foreign talent, but it’s a sad fact that majority of international students pursuing higher education in Michigan universities are compelled to move out of the US due to poor immigration rules, he claimed.
Canada, on the other hand, welcomes foreign graduates to live and work there.
