United Kingdom, 19th May: Immigration resulted in adding a whopping 1.75 million to the UK population in a span of eight years, latest official figures maintain.

The official data further shows that the minorities living in the UK increased by 2.5 million in the last eight years.
This means a growth of 37 percent in the minority people living in the UK between the years 2001 and 2009.
Percentage of ethnic-minority population growing in the UK-- Figures revealed by ONS (Office for National Statistics) maintains that every 1 out of six people living in Wales and England are non-white. These astonishing figures are surely going to invite debates about the increasing impact of UK immigration rules on the population of the nation.
The major increase happens to be among the ‘other-white’ group including people hailing from South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Europeans in the period of eight years. The ONS figures show that the number of white-foreigners went up by 550,000 with the UK witnessing increased number of migrants coming from Commonwealth nations and Eastern Europe.
Labor government’s UK immigration policy blamed—The worrisome increase in the UK minority population in the eight years period has been caused by the poor UK immigration policies of the Labor government, stated Sir Andrew Green of Migrationwatch. No wonder, such loopholes in the UK immigration policies have changed the face of the UK, he slammed.
Time is not far when the population of the UK will hit 70 million in the next two decades if the same scale of UK immigration continues unabated, warned a worried Sir Green. Such a happening will be a big shock for the British people, he quipped.
Majority of increase in UK population due to Eastern European arrivals—The number of migrants coming to the UK for staying here permanently hail primarily from Eastern Europe, specifically Poland. Such migrants thronged the UK after their nations became members of the EU (Eastern Union) in the year 2004.
Apart from Eastern Europeans, there has also been a rise in the number of immigrants from India and Pakistan. The number of Indians in the UK went up by 380,000 while those from Pakistan increased to 1 million from 728,000 in the UK.
