Canada, 29th May: Want to immigrate to best city in the world, consider Vancouver because it has been rated as the best city to live outside Europe, the recent survey- the Mercer 2010 Quality of Living- has found.
This city of Canada has been ranked fourth in the world by the same survey by Mercer, a renowned international consulting company based in London, for quality of living.
Vancouver has been awarded fourth ranking for the second year in a row and this Canadian city is in a tie with New Zealand’s Auckland. Vienna has been placed at the top in the list of best cities the world over while Iraq’s Baghdad was rated at the bottom.
One noticeable thing was that none of the US cities made to the top 25 cities in the world for quality of life. Meanwhile, two cities of Sweden, namely, Zurich and Geneva, have been ranked second and third respectively.
The survey ranked Singapore, with a ranking of 28, as the top Asian city to live in. Tokyo was ranked at 40. Mauritius’ Port Louis has been rated as the best city in Africa and has been given the ranking of 82 by the survey.
The fact that living conditions in Baghdad are extremely poor was proved by the ranking of 221 given to this city of Iraq making it as the worst place for quality of living by the survey.
The survey by Mercer was released on 26th May, 2010 and aims to enable companies to given fair compensation to their workforce depending on the city they live and work in.
The quality of living survey, which is conducted every year by Mercer, seems to have appeared quite irritating to a few.
Mercer stated that despite of the differences of gender, age, social positions etc., there is, indeed, a basic agreement on the needs of the individuals. And it is these individual needs that provide the base for the measurement depending on the factors considered as representatives for quality of life by the people.
The survey stated that we all want to live in those cities which extend safety and security, instant healthcare access, ready access to consumer products, sufficient housing, recreation and education opportunities along with good infrastructure facilities.
Other Canadian cities receiving high rankings in the survey included Ottawa with 14th ranking, Toronto with 16th ranking, Montreal with a ranking of 21 and Calgary receiving a ranking of 28 for the quality of living.
