Immigrants taking British jobs—Iain Duncan Smith
by Harleen Kaur - August 18, 2011
United Kingdom, 18th August: Immigrants seem to be grabbing British jobs at a higher rate now as compared to the figures under the Labor government.

Immigrants getting jobs, UK-born residents unemployed--While the number of Britons in the working age group have been struggling to find jobs in the UK, immigrants, on the other hand, have been tasting success in finding employment here, latest official figures have revealed.
As per the latest data, the number of working age UK-born residents having jobs has gone down by 100,000 since PM David Cameron came into power, while immigrants in the working age group having jobs has gone up by 300,000.
Between April and June 2011, unemployment went up to 2.5 million taking the rate of joblessness in the nation to 7.9 percent in July end. And, in the absence of requisite reforms in UK immigration policies, the rate of unemployment is likely to go up 150,000 next year.
This is despite the fact that the number of immigrants coming to the UK was almost same under the Labor government. And this is certainly a cause of serious concern for the UK.
Ensure jobs to British people, not benefits—Smith--It is high time the UK government steps up to provide jobs to the UK-born residents and get them off from benefits, asserts Mr. Iain Duncan Smith, the UK Work and Pensions Secretary.
Current data reiterates that immigrant workers are making British dependent on benefits by snatching away jobs from them.
As per the figures, around 100,000 UK-born residents have been rendered unemployed by the immigrants coming in the UK. Reacting to the recent crisis engulfing the UK, Mr. Smith said riots are a sort of blessing and a last opportunity for the UK since it will divert the attention of the UK government for introducing requisite reforms in job scenario in the nation.
The UK government needs to provide opportunities of work to working age Britons to save them from spending their life on benefits, claimed Mr. Smith. He has also appealed to the UK businesses to help young British get suitable employment here.
Immigration is affecting the prospects of the UK in a major way. Chairman of MigrationWatch Sir Andrew Green also admitted that immigrants are proving to be taxing for the working age UK-born residents, a fact denied by economists for quite long.
