Georgia’s new Immigration Law scares the nurses the most amongst the Immigrants

New Immigration Law in Georgia brings inconvenience to the Immigrant Professionals

A new Immigration law was enforced almost a year back to stem the illegal immigrants in Georgia. Almost 40% of the immigrants were termed to be illegal.

After the enforcement of the law, a large number of immigrants started moving to Texas and stopped coming out of their houses or even driving their taxis in the fear of being caught by the cops.

The demands of the new Immigration Law

The new law of immigration declines the process of professional license renewal merely by getting connected to the net.

The renewal which was done “online” all these days, is now possible only if the licensee moves to the local office with a series of documents to prove his stay in US legally. These documents would include the driver’s license, passport, green card and or any other valid identity document provided by the Government.

The need of enforcing the law

Secretary of the state claims that the new process is more bureaucratic in nature. A report suggests that there are 475,000 professionals in the state and the personal verification of identity proof is important and can be done only if the licensee comes to the office.

However, the process will not cause much of inconveniences to the applicants because all of them would not be applying for renewal at the same time.

The professional bard informs that in spite of so many reminders, there are more than 8,000 applicants who have not submitted their “residency or citizenship proof”.

The licensing department informs that there are inconveniences in answering to the calls of license seekers and at this point of time the department has only 87 employees to handle the entire set of affairs.
President of Georgia Athletic Trainers’ Association says, “It was just a little more paper work.”

The impact of the law

The renewal process was a matter of a few clicks and one had to wait for as short duration as 48 hours or so. But, now an applicant will have to wait for a minimum of 10 days to get his license renewed.
However, in the neighboring state Alabama, the court has allowed only a portion of the bill to be implemented.

The future of the Law

The officials are planning to make a change in the legislature next year and ensure a simpler system than the existing one. With this proposal the applicants may assume that they will be submitting residency proof of citizenship proof only when they are acquiring the application for the first time.

The Nurses are grumbling about the added paper work because the new ones have to wait for longer than they expected.
