First major change in UK immigration laws by new UK immigration minister

United Kingdom, 19th May: The new UK immigration minister, Damian Green announced the first major change in the UK immigration policy which paves the way for reforms to detention of children in Scotland.

The detention center in Scotland (Dungavel) has become the hot subject of debate in the UK. Hence, the new coalition government had agreed to put an end to the practice of detaining children at Dungavel detention center in Scotland.
Speaking about the new positive outcome in the UK immigration rules, Green stated that what was demanded by several groups of politicians and campaigners in Scotland is now being approved by the UK government.
The announcement by the new UK immigration minister follows the news of a woman detainee and her eight-month-old infant who were locked in the Lanarkshire center inspite of the new coalition government’s announcement to put a full stop to such cruel policies towards immigrants in the UK.
Tavish Scott, a Scottish Liberal Democrat leader had last week claimed that the inhuman practice of locking up children and forcing them to sleep at Dungavel’s immigration removal center had been ended with immediate effect.
The UK immigration minister Green said that the top priority for the UK is to end all such practices for immigration purposes. He said that a dialogue with various experts, organizations and stakeholders will be the next step to stop child detention under UK immigration laws.
He reiterated UK government’s commitment for the welfare of all children in the UK and gave repeated assurances of safe return of those who do not have the right to live in the UK as per the current UK immigration laws.
Following much hue and cry about the apathy shown toward the immigrant mother and her child from Pakistan, its expected that both Sehar Shebaz and her baby girl Wanya will be moved to Yarl’ Wood detention center in England before being finally allowed to go to Pakistan safely.
It may be mentioned that the last Labor government in the UK had expressed its opposition to end child detention in Dungavel despite receiving severe criticism from several Scottish campaigners and government.
