Extended UK student visitor visa for English language students
by Florence Gibbs - December 15, 2010
United Kingdom, 15th December: All foreign students wanting to study English language courses will be allowed to make application for an extended UK student visas.

Such provision will allow migrants to study and live in the UK for a maximum period of up to 11 months. The provision will be available for those applying from outside the UK.
The latest move by the UK government to come into effect from 10th January 2011 onwards has sent warning signals that migrants granted such an extended stay in the UK might find it an easy way to abuse the UK visa rules.
There are concerns that the migrants might disappear after gaining entry into the UK especially in the wake of a growth of 40 percent(as per last month’s official figures) in the number of fake colleges in the UK which offer study courses including language courses or non-degree courses to international students.
Moreover, the data revealed that out of every five foreigners coming to study in the UK in the year 2004, at least one foreigner was still in the UK even after five years.
Recently, the UK government had capped the UK immigration limits but the UK student visitor visas will not be affected by such limits.
Foreign students wanting to pursue other study courses in Britain for a period spanning more than six months will have to submit application under the UK Tier 4 PBS system of the UK immigration.
However, other eligibility criteria for the UK extended student visitor visa are same as the rules for UK student visitor route.
Presently, migrants coming to the UK on student visitor visas are allowed a maximum stay of up to six months only.
And such foreign students are not eligible to take up employment in the UK. Moreover, they cannot bring their dependents into the UK, apply for extension of their stay in the UK, take work placement or switch their study courses after the end of their UK stay.
The Extended UK Student Visitor visas are likely to be reviewed within the coming one year in order to see whether its operating in accordance with the requirements.
