EU Chief Defends Free Travel and Immigration
by Vinita Amrit - July 13, 2011
The Fresh Developments: The European Union’s Home Affairs Commissioner, Ms. Cecilia Malmstroem went on record to support the free and effortless travel conditions and immigration regulations into Europe by foreigners from other countries. She was quoted by the Polish PAP agency on Monday that the relaxation of the rules for travel and immigration would prove to be totally beneficial to the development of the economy of the Eastern European bloc besides the whole of Europe.

The Home Affairs Commissioner went on to say that in case the European Union desires to cultivate and maintain the highest quality of living standards and to withstand the competition from other countries, it should have an open mind to allow immigrants from abroad to come and settle down in Europe since it would boost to their already mushrooming economy.
At a meeting of the European Asylum, she indicated to some of the experts that independent and free travel and ease of movement of goods and merchandize would form the foundation for the European Union and when the process is taken care of properly and managed efficiently. This would bring in the fruits of development through migration of people from other countries into Europe.
The Causes and Reasons: One of the main reasons for the Union Home Affairs Commission to comment as such were to rebuff when some of the members of the European Union sought measures to be taken to revert back to the old policy of exercising control over their borders within the Schengen area in order to curb the flux of immigration of people from the northern part of Africa.
In fact, she was categorical in saying that the migration of people from other countries would allow skilled people to contribute their worth towards the development of the economy of the European Union. It would enhance their image as a free travel zone as well as create a homogenous atmosphere for all the people living in Europe.
The Benefit: A reversion to the age old system of visas and immigration would not be considered to be favorable either to the immigrant or the business traveler. He would, therefore, prefer to visit some other country, where he is provided with better amenities and facilities that would prove to be useful to them in the long run.
All Is Well: Europe is one of the very few continents in the world that allows absolute freedom of travel and immigration facilities to skilled foreign migrants and business travelers. The European Union with its issuance of the Schengen visas has facilitated free flow travel throughout the continent without any hassles. The Schengen visa once granted allows the foreign traveler to travel through all the countries in Europe on a single visa. A person does not need to get visa for each European country rather with this unique kind of visa; the traveler can pass through every country with ease. The Schengen visa however does allow travel to United Kingdom for which you need to apply for a separate visa.
