Eight in ten want stricter controls on UK immigration

United Kingdom, 3rd December: Findings of a latest poll reveal that every eight out of ten people in the UK want tighter controls on UK immigration.

The poll also revealed support for the recently introduced caps on UK visas for non-EU migrants. The YouGov poll maintains that at least 75 percent of Brits favor strict UK immigration limits.
The UK government had announced reducing the UK immigration levels for non-EU migrants by around 20 percent keeping in view the plans of the UK PM David Cameron for bringing down the net immigration levels to tens of thousands from 215,000. The proposed UK immigration figures were 115,000.
However, the findings of the latest YouGov poll assert that the UK people as well as several supporters of the Lib Democrats are urging the Coalition government for an even lower UK immigration level.
The view of around 70 percent of the Brits is that the best net immigration level for the UK will be of 50,000 and that matches with the views of around 61 percent of the Lib Dems, the survey maintains.
The UK Business Secretary Vince Cable had been urging the Home Office to relax the UK immigration limits on economic migrants wanting to come to the UK.
However, the study by think tank Migrationwatch had revealed that around 36 percent Lib Dems favor no immigration at all while around 16 percent want the immigration level down to nearly 50,000 each year.
The poll findings have also expressed serious concerns of the UK people regarding a report by Oxford University which cautioned about white Brits becoming a minority by the year 2016 if the rate of immigration continues unabated.
Professor David Coleman from the Oxford University had stated that the percentage of UK-born population will become 59 percent in the year 2051 from the current 80 percent if the UK allows 180,000 immigrants each year.
And the UK-born immigrants will grow from 4 to 10 percent and the ethnic minority population will grow to 31 percent from 16 percent by the year 2051.
Chairman of Migrationwatch, Sir Andrew Green said that the results are indicative that people favor recent measures of the UK government for controlling UK immigration levels.
