The answer to this question would be probably in a negative tone from many. But those who have seen the life of an undocumented immigrant from a close quarter would certainly give you a positive response.
Why do the undocumented immigrants come to a country like USA?
They come with the hope of spending a better life, and for this even if they have to take a risk of living at a threat they don’t mind. In fact, they find this risk to be better than the kind of life they would have otherwise spent in their native countries. Many of these come to USA at a tender age that is an age when they need to go to school.
How do they arrive in a foreign country?
They don’t have any legal document permitting them to enter the country. So they take help of agents who suck out a huge amount of money to get them in. And they manage to get a passport which is never seen again after the individual has arrived on the new land. The person who brings them to the new land also is never to be seen again.
What happens to them after they have arrived?
They generally take get admitted into a school and start studying. When they grow up their guardians or parents don’t mind them picking up a menial job.
What are the challenges they face?
They always live under a threat of being caught and deported back to their native country where again they are not going to be treated well. Many of these undocumented immigrants are bright and contribute largely to the school or the work place they are associated with. When it comes to submitting a legal document to prove their judicial presence in the country, they fail to meet the requirements.
Do they make any contribution to the society?
In whatever sphere they are they are found to be contributing majorly and doing well for themselves and for the organization they are associated with. There are stories revealing the success of such undocumented immigrants when they have shone and have proven themselves to be better than the rest.
Do they deserve a better treatment?
They certainly do, because most of them are brought here at an age when they don’t even know what is happening around them. Besides, they have been living in the country for years now and have been a part of developmental process in some way or the other, and this cannot be denied.
On many occasions they have proven that they are no less than an American who is born here and have a lot to offer to the country, yet they continue to live under a threat and even humiliation which over shadows all their achievements which they make throughout their lives.
Many of the undocumented immigrants are not here in USA on their own. The decision was taken long back by their elders and they should not be made to pay a price for the same.
