Crooked Immigration Lawyers and Consultants are fixed by New Canadian rules

Unauthorized Migration Consultants in a fix due to Strong Canadian Rules

Immigration Ministry in Canada is always finding out ways to deal with crooked immigration lawyers and consultants.

Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC) has been made in charge of immigration consultants according to the new rule.

According to Bill C- 35 no one other than accredited immigration representative can conduct any sort of business, or collect any fee, at any given stage or step of an application.

Bill C-35 levies a huge fine on any unauthorised representative caught charging an applicant.
“The Government of Canada has promised to crack down on crooked immigration consultants and their shady practices, and with Bill C-35, we now have the tools,” said Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney.

The penalty may range between $50,000 to $100,000 and or imprisonment for up to two years if convicted by indictment. It may range between $10,000 to $20,000 and or imprisonment up to 6 months on summary conviction.

This Bill has enabled the Minister to create or revoke a body of delegates to deal with illegal immigration representatives.

The Bill also enables the Governor in Council to formulate rules which help them collecting and passing information to the Minister. From the information collected the Minister can evaluate if the designated body is working efficiently for Public Interest or not. The Minister can also assess if the designates are performing their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty or not.

Members of Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants (CSIC) can now become a member of ICCRC.
“The ICCRC has committed to accountability, transparency and good governance and has pledged to work to, to protect the interests of consumers. Their efforts, backed by strong new legislation, will allow us to better serve people through our immigration processes and protect potential immigrants, all while improving the integrity of Canada’s immigration system, ” added Jason Kenney.

This entire process is actually a strategy to protect immigration frauds. Kenney raised the issue of immigration frauds in a recent meeting with officials of China, India, Pakistan and the Philippines. He has requested the officials of these countries to ensure the stoppage of ant fraud immigration.

“The Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC) has committed to enhance the protection of the Canadian public and those who use the services of immigration consultants. I am confident that, with the ICCRC’s strong regulation of immigration consultants, people using our immigration processes will be offered quality consultation, representation and advice,” said Alice Wong, Parliamentary Secretary for Multiculturalism.
