Canada, February 3: Get a degree from a Quebec Institute and become a Canadian citizen, says the latest announcement by Jean Charest, a Quebec premier.
Well, this is true and this decision from the Canadian government aims to attract Indian students and explore exchanges and collaborations between India and Canada.
While revealing the latest decision of Canada, Quebec premier Jean Charest stated at the Mumbai University that the ruling will come into effect from February 14 onwards. As per the program, a student who receives a degree from a Canadian college or university in Quebec will be conferred with a selection certificate to gain Canada citizenship.
Canada’s government has brought forward this initiative to give recognition to the skills and efforts of foreign students coming to Canada to pursue bachelor, masters or PhD degrees. Moreover, the country is facing acute shortage of skilled workforce and this move will provide a solution to the increased demand for skilled workers.
Several education experts in India including Dr. Vidya Vencatesan have welcomed this decision by Canada since it will not only equip Indian students with educational degrees but also provide them with relative professional opportunities to work in Canada. Dr. Vidya is a reader and head of the French department, Mumbai University, Mumbai (India).
Hence, the Indian students must use this rare opportunity to study and work in Quebec, Canada since both India and Quebec are multi-cultural and multi-lingual.
The criteria for getting selected for Canadian citizenship will involve a few steps including a graduate degree from a Quebec college/university, security checks and health-checks to be undertaken by the Canadian government.
Canada has known to be a country welcoming immigrants into their friendly ambience with an attitude of openness. And it is this openness in the recent decision of the Canadian government in providing citizenship offer to overseas students by helping them pursue education in Canada.
Every year, nearly 25,000 overseas students from different nations choose Quebec as their destination out of which nearly 400 are Indian students.
