Australia, 11th March: Chinese tourists coming to Australia for visiting their friends and family are reported to be the biggest tourist spenders in Australia.

As per the recent official figures, Chinese visitors are the greatest source of revenue for Australia contributing nearly $1.3 billion in the year 2010.
Chinese are followed by visitors from the UK and New Zealand with visitors from each of these nations spending $2.9 billion and $2 billion in Australia respectively.
Data revealed by the latest survey of international visitors by Tourism Research Australia shows an increase of four percent in the spending by international tourists and a rise of five percent in the number of international visitors in Australia.
While the total expenditure of trip by international visitors is said to be $26 billion, amount spent within Australia is $18 billion, the survey findings reveal.
Majority of Chinese people are coming to Australia for either short visits or for pursuing short-term educational courses in the nation.
Such Chinese visitors usually spend 56 nights in Australia. Chinese coming to Australia for educational courses spend an average of $107 each day.
There has been an increase of 9.7 percent in the local spending by international visitors hailing from Asia in the year 2010 and this has been the best among other regions of the world for the same year.
According to chief executive of TTNQ (Tourism Tropical North Queensland), Rob Giason, the trend of rising spending by Chinese visitors to Australia is not surprising at all and the results have thrilled him.
He added that it was really satisfying to witness Tropical North Queensland getting highest expenditure among other regional areas.
In a bid to allure an even higher number of international tourists, Queensland is launching a new campaign named ‘Nothing beats Queensland’ especially since the nation was marred by several natural disasters like cyclone and floods.
Speaking about the new move, Anna Bligh, the Queensland Premier, stated that the perfect way for helping the state was to encourage the tourists to visit and enjoy the exotic beaches or simply enjoy pleasure by walking on the rainforests.
The campaign is a reminder to the people that Queensland still needs help, added Bligh.
