Changes in Australian immigration announced

Australia, 24th March: A few changes have been announced in the Australian immigration. These include changes in the requirement for Australian citizenship residence.

These changes will come into effect from 1st July, 2010 onwards.
Also, an upper limit has been announced for the total Australian business visas to be issued up to 30th June, 2010 by the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
Chris Evans, the Australian Immigration Minister stated that that number of Australian business visas has been capped at 6,530 and the issuance of all Australian business visas will be stopped once this number is reached.
Seeing the trend of issuance of Australian business visas in the recent times, it is likely that the limit will be reached within a short span of time.
The Australian business visa subclasses to be affected by this capping include----
• 160 Business Owner
• 161 Senior Executive
• 162 Investor
• 132 Business Talent
• 163 State Sponsored Business Owner
• 164 State Sponsored Senior Executive
• 165 State Sponsored Investor
Conditions for Australian Citizenship on or after 1st July, 2007 --Following conditions will apply for all applicants over the age of 16 years applying for Australian citizenship ----
• The applicant should be living in Australia and possess a valid Australian visa for at least 4 years before filing application. The period of 4 years includes 1 year as a PR(permanent resident); and
• The applicant should not be absent from Australia for a period exceeding 1 year during the 4 years and not more than a period of 90 days in the year just before filing application.
Conditions for applying for Australian Citizenship before 1st July, 2007-----If you had become a permanent resident of Australia before 1st July, 2007 and file application on or before 30th June, 2010, the requirement for Australian residence is as follows------
• The applicant should be living in Australia as a permanent resident for 2 years in the 5 years before applying. This includes 1 year immediately before making application.
