Canadian immigration makes Canada’s population exceed 34 million

Canada, 2nd July: The latest figures by Statistics Canada reveal Canada’s population exceed 34 million.

As on April 1, 2010, Canada’s population stood at 34,019,000 registering an increase of 0.26 percent with the addition of nearly 88,000 new people since 1st January 2010.

Out of this increase, one-third (29 percent) was due to natural factors while two-third (71 percent) increase was caused by grant of Canadian visas and overseas migration.

It has been found by Statistics Canada that Canadian immigration has declined this year as compared to last few years.

Almost all the Canadian provinces registered rise of population with the only exception being the province of Nova Scotia. This happens to be the only province which does not seem to hold any attraction for new immigrants moving into Canada.

A total of four western Canadian provinces saw growth rate of population higher than the average growth rate in Canada. Reason for this increased growth rate could be due to alluring more immigrants to live and work in these Canadian provinces.

Among these included Saskatchewan and B.C. (British Columbia)showing the growth rates of 0.36 percent with a total population reaching 4,510,900 and 0.37 percent followed by Alberta and Manitoba hovering at 0.35 percent and 0.30 percent respectively. Saskatchewan noted the highest increase since the year 1972.

Nova Scotia showed a decline of 0.03 percent mainly due to negative natural factors. This Canadian province showed no overseas immigration and higher number of deaths than the number of births in this year.

Newfoundland and New Brunswick exhibited a growth of 0.02 percent and 0.08 percent while Ontario and Quebec showed a growth of 0.25 percent and 0.20 percent in their population.

A noticeable decline in the net overseas migration in Canada was due to significant fall in the number of non-permanent residents in Canada including those on Canadian student visas, Canada work permits, refugee claimants in Canada or family members of refugee claimants living in Canada.

Canada happens to be multicultural and welcoming nation for immigrants hailing from different nations of the world to come and live in Canada since the federal government is highly concerned about the increasing rates of aging population likely to result in decrease in the number of working age population.
