Canadian on Hunger strike for fear of being deported back to Canada
by Anonymous - December 6, 2009
In the times when half of the world is looking to immigrate to North America, Ziad Chebib from Calgary, Canada is on hunger strike for fear of being deported back to Canada.

Ziad had moved to Australia with his family consisting of wife and three children and started a home building company. He got a three year visa. He constructed a palatial home costing $285,000 ne ar Melbourne, in this period, which Australian authorities now say that it was in violation of the visa terms.
Ziad applied for two year extension in visa, which he was granted. During this period, he had hoped to establish his business, but failed to do so because of unforeseen medical problems with his son, who was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder and attention deficit disorder after suffering a back injury at work.
In 2005, as his extended visa expired, Ziad again appealed, this time on compassionate grounds. As his series of appeals were rejected, last month he was taken into custody for being deported. In protest, last Thursday Ziad went of hunger strike and refused any solid food, though he accepted tea, coffee saying that "The only thing coming through my body is water and one cup of coffee a day to give me strength and keep me awake."
He is likely to be deported back to Calgary in the next five to seven days.
