Canadian government works towards welcoming increased Chinese students

Canada, 16th September: Canadian government is doing greater efforts to allow more and more Chinese students to come and study in Canada.

This was announced by Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, Mr. Jason Kenney and President of ACCC (Association of Canadian Community Colleges), James Knight in China Tuesday.

China happens to be the biggest source of students opting to study in various Canadian colleges. The year 2009 had around 50,000 Chinese students living in Canada and its expected the figures will grow further in the coming times following SPP(Students Partners Program).

Over the past decade, the number of Chinese living in Canada has gone up by nearly 300%.

At present, nearly 200,000 international students in Canada are contributing a whopping $6.5 billion to the national economy.

Mr. Kenney said that his government is committed to allow more Chinese to live and study in Canada and this has been made quite clear during his visit to Beijing.

Canadian immigration minister Kenney asserted that Canada has been benefiting significantly from immigration of Chinese into Canada. China is and will continue to remain a top source of Canada immigration, he maintained.

Apart from Chinese students coming to study in Canada, more visitors from China are traveling to Canada these days, noted Mr. Kenney. The number of Canadian visitor visas issued during the first quarter of the current year showed a big percentage of such visas granted to Chinese migrants.

As per the data, there has been a rise of 14 percent in the first quarter of 2010 over the first quarter of previous year in the number of visitors hailing from China traveling to Canada. As compared to the figures of first quarter of the year 2005, there has been an increase of 46% in the number of Chinese visitors to Canada.

So, it’s quite clear that more and more Chinese people are coming to Canada to visit their families as compared to the earlier times, Kenney clarified. The grant of ADS (Approved Destination Status) has enabled Chinese travelling agencies to organize tours to Canada. The number of such tour groups traveling to Canada is only going to increase in the coming times, stated Kenney.

The door for Chinese visitors, immigrants, and students is open for coming to Canada. And there is no need for hiring any immigration consultant to immigrate to Canada, its possible to move to Canada without any consultant’s help, advised Kenney.
