Canadian government helps youth, immigrants prepare for jobs

Canada, 1st September: Canada government is initiating several programs to update the skills and work experience of youth and immigrants in Canada for enabling them get jobs in Canada.

This was announced by the Canadian government, Member of Parliament, Saskatoon- Wanuskewin, Mr. Maurice Vellacott on behalf of the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, Honourable Diane Finley.

Now days, youth need to have updated skills, knowledge and work experience in order to succeed in the employment market, stated Mr. Vellacott. And the aim of Canada government through such job programs in Canada is to help the local youth as well as new immigrant arrivals in Saskatoon polish such skills and experience to maximize their work potential, he added.

SCYAP(Saskatoon Community Youth Arts Programming) and STEC(The Saskatchewan Tourism Education Council) will be provided an amount of $330,000 as part of federal Skills Link funds for their individual projects. Such projects by Canada government will enable nearly 40 young people overcome obstacles in getting jobs in Canada or help them get back to school once again.

Speaking about STEC, Director of the Saskatchewan Tourism Education Council, Ms. Carol Lumb said that the organization is all praise for the support extended for the program-- Ready to Work- Tourism Careers. Ms. Lumb said that Saskatchewan tourism sector has several opportunities for career enhancement adding that the funding will help in taking such opportunities to the young people and immigrants willing to work in Canada.

Welcoming the appreciative effort done by Canada government, Founder and Executive Director of SCYAP (Saskatoon Community Youth Arts Programming), Mr. Darrell Lechman said that such programs are playing a significant role in brining desired improvements in the lives of young people at risk.

In such programs, the Government of Canada is working in close collaboration with various Canadian territories and provinces, community organizations and several stakeholders to help update skills, training and opportunities of jobs in Canada.

Under the 2010 Jobs and Growth Budget, an additional funding to the tune of $60 million has been committed by the Canadian government to the Skills Link as well as Career Focus projects. This investment will provide young local Canadians as well as immigrants get skills and experience needed for successful participation in opportunities of work in Canada.
