Canada, December 2: As per the current year’s annual report on immigration issued by the Canadian government, Canada has laid bare its plan of not only maintaining the number of permanent residents it will allow into the country but also welcoming a greater number of immigrants selected by the provinces and territories as compared to the previous years.
This was announced by Jason Kenney, Canada’s Immigration Minister, in the report that is presented every fall.
Canada is a hospitable country and welcomes the newcomers from all over the world with its tradition of openness. No wonder, Canada attracted roughly a quarter of a million permanent residents in the year 2008, stated Kenney. This happens to be the highest level of immigration of any western country, added Kenney.
Talking about the target of CIC( Citizenship and Immigration Canada) during the last two years (2008 and 2009), Kenney said the country was to throw open the doors of immigration to nearly 240,000 and 265,000 new permanent residents in the years 2008 and 2009 and the target is going to be maintained in the year 2010 also, the report affirms.
However, the major difference between the immigration plans for the current year and the next year is the total number of newcomers expected to seek immigration under a Selection or a Provincial Nomination Program.
As compared to the target of welcoming anything between 20,000 to 26,000 nominees from provinces in 2009, the current goal (for the year 2010) of Canada is to welcome between 37,000 and 40,000 Provincial Nominees.
Seeing a rising trend of provincial immigrants in the recent years, it becomes evident that the provinces are shouldering increased responsibility of choosing their own immigrants.
According to official sources, the province of Quebec in Canada is likely to see an increase of ten percent in the number of immigrants in 2010 as compared to the year 2009.
Hence, the advice for all candidates applying for immigration to Canada in the near future is to use all the Canadian immigration choices available to them.
