Canada plans new immigration process

Canada, 7th April: Canada is planning shifts in immigration regime to enable foreigners with requisite skills to come to Canada.

Canada to transform immigration system—Federal government is intending to introduce vital changes to its immigration process to help employers choose which foreigners should be allowed to move to Canada, stated Canada immigration minister Jason Kenney.

Employers will have the jurisdiction to select prospective immigrants for immigrating to Canada. Giving details about the process, Kenney affirmed that from now onwards, employers rather than bureaucrats will be involved in recruitment of newcomers to Canada.

This is due to the fact that only people with requisite skills come and get jobs at their skill level in Canada.

There is no logic in recruiting people who can’t find jobs in accordance with their skill levels, stated Kenney while addressing a function by ACCE (Association of Chinese Canadian Entrepreneurs) and ICCC (Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce).

Foreign credential recognition before arrival in Canada—The government of Canada is going to hire an outside firms to undertake the job of pre-arrival recognition of foreign credentials in Canada. This will save highly qualified professionals including doctors, engineers and lawyers from becoming cab drivers in Canada.

This will save a wastage of human capital by having a suitably qualified pool of foreigners in Canada. Each year, nearly 250,000 foreigners come to Canada.

And a large number of such immigrants either remain jobless or are underemployed in Canada. So, Canada needs to change all this. Such a move will control high rates of unemployment and underemployment among newcomers in Canada.

Canada needs to control immigration backlog—Canada is facing an increasingly high immigration backlog and this needs to be controlled at the earliest, Kenney stated.

Last week, Canada had announced the decision to eliminate applicants who had been waiting for a couple of years to immigrate under Canada skilled worker immigration category.

The move may seem harsh but is essential to bring the immigration process on the track, he affirmed. . For Canada, equality of men and women is indispensable.

So, Canada wants to send a clear message that Canadian values are of utmost importance to the nation while selecting foreigners, Kenney stated.
