Canada, February 13: Canada is placed at 23rd among the 30 countries in terms of health care system in the country, reveals a latest report by Canadian and European researchers.

Although, Canada got better scores in terms of medical results like cancer survival rates and medical results, however, in terms of availability of services, instant access to latest medicines, diagnostic tools and other related medical methods, the country fared badly in the study by Health Consumer Powerhouse(based in Brussels) and Frontier Center for Public Policy(based in Winnipeg).
This study measured performance of 30 European nations.
While Canada was placed 23rd, Austria topped the list scoring 806 out of 1000 points on the statistical scale. Austria was followed by Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Germany and Sweden.
Although, as compared with its immediate neighbor US in terms of medical care, Canada fares much better, asserted the sponsors of the study.
President of the Winnipeg based Frontier Center for Public Policy, Peter Holle and Johan Hjertqvist of Health Consumer Powerhouse said the Canadian health care system was more in common with European systems than with the American one.
Canada’s health care system was not as good as that of UK, Spain, Czech Republic and Estonia, however, it was much better than the health care facilities available in the countries like Poland and Latvia.
The study, which is being regarded as the first Euro-Canada Health Consumer Index (annual), says that although, Canada fairs badly in terms of health care facilities in the country, despite a higher spending on Canadian health care than any other nation selected in the survey.
Meanwhile, the study made it quite clear that although no nation scores highest ranking in terms of all the factors included to arrive at the rankings, but, nations with ‘pluralistic financing’ score significantly better.
The conclusion by the study is that Canada gets best results but scores poorly when it comes to rights and accessibilities available to the patients.
