Canada economy needs more immigrants

Canada, 7th July: With imminent shortages of required workforce in Canada, the nation needs more immigrants to come and work here.

This has been revealed by a host of studies in Canada.

Shortage of workers in Canada--Canada is going to face a huge shortage of workforce shortly due to more people leaving the workforce following aging population. And in such a scenario, more companies in Canada will be hiring new workers especially in the IT sector( information sector) in the coming five years period or so.

Although, the demand for required people in information and communications sector is going to shoot up, the number of new enrolments in computer and information technology programs is not enough.

Moreover, the number of new graduates in IT sector are also quite less, thus adding to the woes of Canada, reveals president of Microsoft Canadian division, Eric Gales.

Gales maintained that the number of new immigrants with IT skills coming to Canada is quite less.

Low birth-rate in Canada—According to latest statistics, birth rate in Canada is currently 1.66 children per woman. And keeping in view the requirements of workforce in Canada, this is quite low.

Many economists suggest that population of Canada must be at least three times the current population if the nation wants to keep up the productivity levels. This means higher birthrate in Canada can give it an appropriate place in the international economy.

Immigration can help Canada--Immigration in Canada can prove to be of great help in solving the problem of the economic development. This can also help in improving the productivity of the nation. The rate of immigration in Canada in the last decade(on an average) was 240,000 while the CBC(Conference Board of Canada) has forecast the immigration rate in Canada to move up to 350,000 annually by the year 2030.

Hence, the government of Canada must focus its efforts on increasing the rates of immigration in Canada. However, the only prerequisite to be kept in mind is allow only those immigrants who possess required skill-sets in great demand in Canada.

Moreover, Canada must work towards relaxing its immigration norms so as to enable more and more skilled immigrants to choose Canada over other destinations. That’s not all. Canada also must improve its integration services for successful settlement of newcomers in this nation.
