Canada’s immigration system losing trust among foreigners

At least, this seems true with regard to the recent decision of Canadian government to eliminate around 300,000 immigration applications of skilled workers received before27th February, 2008.

Canada to delete 300,000 skilled worker applications--Canada government decided to chop off a large number of applications under Federal Skilled Worker Program to reduce the ever increasing immigration backlog. However, this is not a proper way of dealing with the immigration backlog.

The act is betrayal of trust and faith in Canada immigration rules. It is a big blow to the nation’s reputation of having a friendly immigration process.

The government could have resorted to some other means for reducing the backlog of immigration files rather than just eliminating all such immigration files from the records of Canada immigration.

If this is what Canada calls revamping the process of immigration, then it needs to change its concept. There does not seem to be any logic in dashing the hopes and dreams of aspiring immigrants to the ground by removing their immigration applications from the processing system.

Canada justifies the move--Meanwhile, Canada, on the other hand, tried to re-instill the faith and trust of aspiring immigrants in its immigration system by saying that such a step was mandatory to keep the process suited to changing labor needs of Canada.

Moreover, the immigration authorities further alleged that they were finding it difficult to focus on new immigration applications promising best skills and talent into the nation.

The government of Canada has also give assurances to the applicants whose applications were eliminated from immigration records.

It says all such applicants would be allowed to make fresh applications for Canada immigration under reformed rules or apply under Canada PNPs(Provincial Nominee Programs) for working in the nation. In addition, the government also promised to refund the fees of around $130 million paid by applicants.

But, all such small incentives are not going to bring back the lost faith and confidence of immigrants in Canada immigration system, once and for all. And all this is going to have a dampening effect on the number of foreigners wanting to come to Canada.
