Canada’s first Super Visa issued

Canada, 23rd December: Canada has issued its first Parent and Grandparent Super Visa.

This was revealed by Canada immigration minister Jason Kenney. Speaking on the occasion of issuing Canada’s first Super Visa, Kenney said the federal government remains committed to finishing the process of Canada Parent and Grandparent Super Visa in a period not exceeding eight weeks.

Canada Parent and Grandparent Super Visa—Under Canada’s Parent and Grandparent Super Visa issued by the government, parents and grandparents of Canada permanent residents and citizens of Canada are permitted to come and meet their families living in Canada.

This Super Visa is valid for a period of 10 years and needs renewal after a period of two years.

Prior to the introduction of Canada Super Visa for elders wanting to meet their children who are living in Canada, the total time period of their stay in Canada was limited to just six months.

So, after the completion of their six-month stay in Canada, parents or grandparents had no other option but to shell out bucks every six months and make application for extending their stay in Canada to be with their families.

Positive response to Canada Super Visa program—The newly launched Canada Super Visa program has attracted positive response from immigrant communities since it will allow loved ones of Canada citizens and Canada permanent residents to remain with them for extended time in Canada, Kenney stated.

Canada’s first Super Visa was issued on 14th December in Canadian embassy in Manila just fifteen days after applications were accepted by Canada immigration department-CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada) for such visas.

The launch of Canada Super Visas is aimed to bring considerable reductions in the long backlogs for parents and grandparents wanting to join their families in Canada. The federal government hopes it will bring down the current backlog of 165,000 down.

The cost of Canada Super Visa is C$150, informed official spokesperson of CIC, Bill Brown. In addition, there is a third party service provider charge fee.

Eligibility criteria for Canada Super Visa—Applicants need to provide proof of minimum income of their host grandchild or child. In addition, they must show proof of having bought comprehensive medical insurance in Canada and need to undergo the Immigration Medical Examination.
