Bogus UK colleges dash Gujarat students’ dreams

Ahmedabad, December 17: Nearly thousands of students from Gujarat in India are feeling cheated by fraudulent agents of several bogus colleges in UK. This is being increasingly discovered by Indian students nurturing their dreams of getting higher education in UK colleges.

Innocent Indian students in Gujarat had been applying to a number of private colleges in United Kingdom. Since the colleges were bought by unscrupulous agents just to grab money from foreign students, they were not meant to impart education but just as money-minting machines.
No wonder, all such bogus colleges in Britain allured foreign students with incredibly low fees, ranging between Rs. 1.5 to Rs. 2 lakh per student.
Taking a cue from such increasing incidents, the UK government has come into action and closed nearly 400 such bogus institutes in UK. Moreover, it’s keeping strict vigil on another 800 colleges to protect foreign students from getting cheated.
The fact that many bogus agents, who claim themselves to be immigration consultants, will go to the extent of obtaining necessary documents for anyone wishing to immigrate to Britain for making money. The documents including required educational certificates along with a passport will be provided to the person by these bogus consultants, of course, in lieu of big money as their fees.
And these agents will also make the students admitted to bogus college in UK and then vanish from the scene. The result is that there are many students in UK who are finding it really hard to survive. They have no money left with them and have no option but to remain without food or shelter.
Many students in UK have committed suicides in the recent past and girl students are taking to prostitution just to make their both ends meet. The agony is that these students from Gujarat are being exploited by employers, many of whom are actually of Gujarati origin.
It’s high time to stop all such exploitative practices being meted out to innocent students in UK.
