United Kingdom, 19th December: All applicants desirous of applying for renewal of their UK Tier 1 visa and Tier 5 visa under the temporary worker categories will have to provide biometrics information in their application with effect from 14th December 2010 onwards.

Biometrics requires all such UK visa applicants under the PBS (Points Based System) to submit their photograph and fingerprints, revealed the UKBA (UK Border Agency).
A biometric residence permit will be issued to the applicants and these biometric permits in the UK will replace stickers or vignettes held by the migrants in their UK passports.
It is a residence card having biographic information of a migrant including the name, date of birth and place apart from the fingerprints and digital facial photograph. The Biometric Residence Permit reveals the immigration status of the concerned migrant and his or her rights in the UK during his stay there.
Before the new ruling for the UK Tier 1 and Tier 5 visa applicants, applicants for UK Tier 2 and Tier 4 visas were required to provide biometrics information along with their application and having a Biometric Residence Permit has been mandatory for them.
Migrants wishing to apply for extension of their stay in the UK can do through post following which they will be issued an invitation to submit their biometric information at any of the 17 crown post offices through their walk-in service or by seeking an appointment at any of the 11 biometric enrolment centers of the Home Office.
Also, the application can be made by the migrants in person at any of the public enquiry offices of the UKBA or by making use of the super premium service. The only condition is that migrants need to enroll their biometric details along with their application for the UK visa.
The UK Tier 5 visas are meant for non-UK migrants wanting to immigrate to the UK to work as temporary workers. The UK Tier 1(General) visas are for skilled workers (including those in the UK and overseas) wishing for extension of their stay in the UK and are subject to certain eligibility conditions.
