Aussies feel embarrassed by new Australian tourism Ad

Australia, 2nd June: The new Ad Campaign by Tourism Australia is making at least some Aussies feel outraged and embarrassed.

It is being strongly felt by an increasing number of Aussies that the new tourism advertisement is out of tune, “bogan” and relies on tired stereotypes.
The advertisement is of 90-second duration and was released on June 1, 2010 for the Australian public. It ad features a new song with the title’ “There’s nothing like Australia”, and features Aussies playing in some of the major tourist attractions in the country.
The latest campaign by Tourism Australia is a part of ongoing efforts to promote Australia among immigrants as well as residents of the nation.
The ad shows nearly 20 snippets of city or beach and aims to promote almost all the aspects of Australia including tourism, trade, living and education for making it a favored destination for immigrants from the world over apart for the current residents.
The ad features Australians listing various things in the nation that are exclusive attractions for immigrants and Australian natives. It includes a sunset from a camel, this bear, the people who welcome all with their friendly attitude and much more.
Many critics feel the latest endeavor by Tourism Australia is, in no way, different from its last tourism campaign titled-“Where the bloody hell are ya”, which was a huge success. The last campaign invited potential Aussies to explore coastal or urbanized areas.
The ad is being called ridiculous and has been branded as ‘bogan pride’ on the website Mumbrella’s forum by one person while others criticize the decision of performing the song as if they can’t sing. According to David Tattersall, a singing coach at the University of Canberra, the pity is that they can’t sing a song although Aussies are not tone deaf.
Meanwhile, Andrew McEvoy, Managing Director of Tourism Australia, says the ad was made after having consultations for selecting the most effective messaging and imagery to sell Australian vacations to various consumers in a wide variety of markets.
Hence, it was only then that the animals, the icons and all the things that feature currently in the Australian tourism campaign were selected, maintains Mr. McEvoy.
If you feel to enjoy the bounties of Australian nature, you need to apply for ETA visa which is an Australian Tourism visa. Getting ETA visa is quite simple as you need to apply online and after its approval, its attached electronically to your passport.
