Canada, February 2: An Anti-immigrant wave is up against the policies of the politicians in Canada who want increased immigrants into the country.
• Immigrants take up large number of jobs ---This is the notion of several natives in Canada who feel that by allowing a large number of immigrants into the country, the government is creating tough job market for the natives as majority of such jobs are taken by the new arrivals in Canada.
• Liability on the economy---Such migrants are considered a liability on the economy of Canada. And since the country felt serious affects of world’s worst recession almost a year ago, it is being felt that increasing immigration will put added burden on the already overburdened infrastructure of many cities of Canada which are struggling to cope up with the effects of the global economic crisis.
As per the latest figures, there are nearly about 150,000 to 200,000 temporary migrants in Canada, and they are more likely to stay here forever.
• Immigrants to face increased hatred-There already exists a strong feeling and attitude of hate against soaring migrant workers in Canada. And the fact that the Harper government is in favor of increasing the immigration limit next year to about 265,000 is only going to worsen this hatred for the immigrants resulting into serious complications for those in the job market.
Not only the Harper government, even the New Democrats and the Liberals are asking for increasing immigration intake up to one percent of Canada’s population or nearly 333,000 annually.
• Canada loses millions by training new immigrants---It is being argued that while several cities of Canada have already lost numerous jobs in the last year, so what is the rational behind allowing such increased number of immigrants into the country.
And since bringing in large number of immigrants into the country also involves losing millions on providing desired training to these immigrants to help get them equipped with the skills needed for the jobs, the anti-immigration wave for new arrivals is taking a serious turn.
The common notion is not just to shunt out all immigrants out of Canada but also favors to put a stop or at least allow only the barest minimum numbers into the country.
Will anybody answer why such hatred and bias against the immigrants? Is anyone listening? And where is the so-called multicultural and friendly attitude as claimed by the country?
