50 percent of New Zealanders unable to pay for dental care

New Zealand, 12th May: Latest findings have revealed that around half of Kiwis can’t afford dental care in New Zealand.
According to leader of the Progressive Party, Jim Anderton, getting regular dental health checkups is becoming a far cry among New Zealanders.
The study shows that due to high costs of dental health in New Zealand, nearly half of New Zealanders admitted not having visited a dentist in the year 2010.
New policy to be introduced for discussing dental issues next month—Anderton said that a new policy will be launched by him next month in order to discuss the issue of dental care for New Zealanders. Earlier, he had raised the issue in the parliament but the government stated its satisfaction over the present dental care affordability while admitting that some might find the dental care in New Zealand a bit costly.
Dental services in New Zealand still of poor quality—The quality of dental care services in New Zealand has, no doubt, undergone a significant change resulting in betterment. However, as compared to other nations, its still a far cry.
Dental health in New Zealand is the poor part of the health care system in the nation and the rising health and human costs are adding to the woes, admits Anderton.
Government ignoring a serious issue-Anderton-- As per the report, as many as 44 percent of Kiwis are not having access to dental care and this is an issue of serious concern for the nation.
And, this is certainly more than ‘some’, replied Anderton, while replying to the government’s comment that only some were not able to afford dental health in New Zealand. The government of New Zealand is of the view that the nation is having an adequate health care system but the fact is that New Zealanders have to wait in queues from dawn to dusk and only manage to get emergency dental care services like teeth extractions and pain relief, quipped Anderton. It’s a serious problem in New Zealand, he cautioned.
