Women in Canada Are More Protected Than Their Counterparts Elsewhere

Kudos to the Canada land for taking care of the fair sex and its rights! Canada immigration experiences would give every woman a good reason to celebrate womanhood.

In many countries, the situation of women has not improved a wee bit in all these years with social inequality, domestic violence, and malnutrition plaguing women. Not only that, several nations do not even have legislations that come to the aid of these distressed souls unlike in Canada.

Canada has always had an impressive track record of being the champion in safeguarding the family values and protecting women and children. Ever year thousands of women from all over the world touch down this country. There are many Federal agencies that work exclusively for the benefit of women. While domestic abuse is the order of the day in many countries, Canada stirred up quite a lot of interest by its deportation judgment of a wife beater. While the society turns a Nelson’s eye to women’s plight, Canada has taken the lead to ensure respect and equality for women.

Though women have made significant progress in all spheres of life, gender discrimination and inequality still plague the society. ‘Status of Women Canada’ is such a Federal organization that is committed for the development and well being of women. Apart from improving the social status of women, it also helps to improve the economic and social conditions of women in Canada.

Canada has formulated many rules in favor of women. For instance, wife beating is not an offence in many countries whereas in Canada assaulting one’s wife is considered akin to assaulting a third party, liable to imprisonment for a term of maximum ten years.

All over the world, women are almost always subjected to inequity in crucial matters including marriage, education, divorce, custody of children and division of marital property among others. News paper headlines beam honor killings or starvation deaths of women from around the world. Many a times, religious faith or customs add fuel to the fire in the discrimination of women in the society.

However, the situation is different in Canada where women are respected and family values treasured. United Nations Convention of the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination against Women was ratified by Canada way back in 1981, setting a role model to other nations. This ensures that women are safeguarded from violence and their assets protected in the event of inheritance issues. Canada not just ensures equality of women but also ensure to safeguard the interests of the children as well.

Considering the susceptibility of women to violence and prejudice, the government is remaining alert in ensuring equal rights to women apart from preventing serious human right abuses. Many pieces of legislation have been formulated to provide Canadian women protection from discrimination of any sort, which also forms one of their basic rights.

There are many parallel legal methods such as Muslim, Jewish and Christian legal codes adopted by various religious segments to safeguard the fundamentals rights of that particular sector of the society. However, all these systems work in tandem with the Canadian Governmental policies to ensure compliance of international standards. This assumes greater significance in the light of the finding that many religious laws are discriminatory towards women. Canada has indeed made women feel safe with the Canadian Family Law Act, which ensures total protection of women’s basic rights. Of course a reason for women to celebrate their safety and privileges!
