“Want to stay in Germany?”- Here you have relevant piece of information.

Anyone who wants to stay in Germany for more than three months must have a residence permit. In order to apply for a residency permit, you need to get your residence registered at the local Einwohnermldeamt and then fill in the application form that you will get the form for residency permit.

You do not need a visa to enter Germany if you are a citizen of EU, United States of America, Canada, Israel, New Zealand or Switzerland. You can directly apply for a residency permit after entering Germany. However, citizens of other nations must apply for a resident permit before entering Germany. Before entering Germany, they also need to get a visa from the German Embassy or consulate in their country of residence. People who are working in Germany and live outside the country (frontier workers) are needed to apply for a residency permit at the local authority of the place where they are employed.

While applying for the residency permit, you need to have all the required documents with you and you should also fulfill the requirements for applying. It would be better if you check out the latest details before going to the local immigration office, as the requirements change very frequently. After completing every thing from your part, be prepared for a long wait. Finally, you would be called for an interview that in most cases take 10-15 minutes, if everything is fine and in order. The officers will check your documents and see if anything is missing or not. If something that is required is not there than you will be sent back that day and you will be required to come back the next day with the missing thing.

Your application for the residency permit will take 2-3 weeks to be processed and in the meantime your stay will be legal with the help of a certificate stating that you are waiting for your residence permit. It should be borne in mind that your residency permit is valid only when it is shown with your national identity documents. You should make sure that you renew your passport in advance if it to expire in the near future. Failing to do so, if your passport expires while you are in Germany, then you need to go through the whole process of applying for the residency permit again, after you receive your new passport.
