The fate of the illegal immigrants.

Have you wondered as to why the issue of illegal immigration has dropped from the radar screens of the media during the presidential campaign? I have certainly thought of it, and believe that many of you have as well.
So, where has the issue disappeared? Its not that the illegal aliens have left us- they are still with us. There are estimates that almost 20 million illegal aliens are residing here. More number of illegal immigrants lives and works with us in US everyday. But still, we have a border which is wide open and it literally begs citizens of other countries to steal across it and take up illegal residence in our country.
Some reports in the press suggest that since the arrival of our financial crisis, a huge number of illegal immigrants have returned to their homes. And this is what we have always been saying that illegal immigrants are not here to become citizens of this great country. The only thing that they want is money and once the market has tightened up, and the job market has shrunk, they have started leaving our country.
All this begs a question that why aren’t the two presidential candidates talking about it? My personal opinion is that there is no meaningful difference between the stances on illegal immigration of the two presidential candidates of the US.
And yes, we all remember that John McCain co-sponsored the Senate immigration bill that would have legalized millions of illegal immigrants in the US and he still supports it, calling it as a ‘sensible’ guest-worker program for all those workers who have been in this country without any proper, legal documentation.
On the other had, Obama is no different. Obama voted for the Senate immigration overhaul bill which was supposed to create stronger border controls. But actually, a closer look at it would reveal that it would expand the guest-worker program, and over time, legalize millions of illegal, undocumented immigrant workers living in the country. In addition to this, Obama has also sponsored a bill, which allows states to provide in-state tuitions for illegal immigrants and he even supports giving driving licenses to illegal immigrants.
So, where does this election provides the voter the opportunity to choose the one whom they feel to be a better leader? The fact is that they have no choice. I suspect that the voters believe that they are down to choosing a lesser of two evils.
