You can be eliminated from the task of being a sponsor in case:

You fail to offer monetary support that you have agreed to while signing the sponsorship agreement

Defaulted on some immigration loan like missed or late payments
Have been declared a bankrupt
Are in prison
Were convicted of some violent offense

The applicants for residence in Canada immigration need to go through the criminal, background and medical screening in order to see if they are not charged with any liens or fraud cases. The applicants having a criminal background or record are not allowed to be the permanent citizen of Canada or sometimes not even be allowed to visit the place. The applicants need to offer the certificate from the police authorities of their home country.
